Valentine’s Day Gift Inspiration – Spread That Love

This year’s Valentine’s Box Swap has come to an end. Don’t worry of you missed out. We do it annually so you can jump in next year! Once boxes have had a chance to arrive I’m going to do a little Valentine’s Box Swap roundup on the blog so be on the look out for that next week. It’s so fun and touching to see what everyone does for their buddy.

In the meantime I wanted to share a little love spreadin’ inspiration……..

Valentine’s sometimes gets a bad rap.
“I have no love to celebrate.”
“It’s a fake Hallmark holiday.”
“Yeah you enjoy your Valentine’s I’m just going to be at home binge eating and watching Netflix…..alone.”

Come on you know you’ve heard someone say these things. Shoot maybe you’ve said them. You’re right if you want to think about Valentine’s like that it sure would suck but I challenge you to look beyond those ideas that give Valentine’s a bad rap and think bigger.

Whether it’s a made up holiday or not Valentine’s is a celebration of love! Not just romantic love but love of all kinds.

Love for your children.
Love for your parents.
Love for you friends.
Love for you pets.
Love for the barista that makes your coffee just how you like it.
Love for your coworkers.
Love for your mail provider.
Love for someone who needs a little more love.
Love for yourself.
Big love.
Little love.
Deep love.

It’s a day to do just that….celebrate love and if you look at it like that how can you not jump on the Valentine’s love train? It’s beautiful and we have lots of hugs and candy there!

Whether you’re a fan of Valentine’s or not I challenge you to spread a little Valentines love this year. It doesn’t need to be anything big or expensive.

A Few Ideas:

-Last year I took my oldest son to do his most favorite things. We visited his favorite playground, made a stop by the library and read Valentine’s books, had lunch at this favorite restaurant and made Valentine’s cookies and cards for his friends. All simple things but it presented an opportunity to teach him about love and doing for others.

-Pull out some stationary and hand write a letter to someone you haven’t talked to in a while. People love snail mail and it’s an inexpensive way to make someone smile.

-Gather some of your most loved inexpensive items (e.g. snacks, chap stick, nail polish, your favorite book or album). Place them in a pretty box along with a note telling them why you love each item and drop it by a loved ones house.

-Pay for a stranger’s coffee! Simple and easy!

-Call and tell a loved one (key word is “Tell” not ask) that you’re going to drop off their favorite treat. If you ask if you can drop it off they will most likely tell you don’t need to so take the initiative to make it happen!

-Have a niece or nephew or maybe a little in your life that you love? Hand make and mail them a Valentine’s card. Kids LOVE to get things in the mail and having something that was hand made by you just adds to the fun of it all.

-Invite your gal pals over for a “Make Your Own Sundae” party. You supply the ice cream and ask your buddies to bring their most loved topping to share.

-Offer to watch a friend’s kids so the mama can get a break!

-Drop a homemade meal by someone’s house.

-Celebrate love for yourself by setting aside time to do something you love to but don’t often. A walk in your favorite park, a relaxing bath with new bath products, a new pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing, a trip to a store you’ve been wanting to visit, a trip to the museum, have lunch at a new place you’ve been wanting to try, treat yourself to a new book and a cute bookmark.

I could go on and on with ideas but you get the point…..

My husband is actually cooking me dinner for Valentine’s Day, but I’ll make him a special dessert and a few gifts of course. I have a niece and nephew that I’ll mail a card to and make up little goody bags for. I’ll also mail a Valentine’s card to the grandparents from my daughter with pictures of her on it.
