My Thoughts On Our Blog & Social Media

Today’s blog post photos are pulled from old blog post. Just a few of my favorite captured moments.
All shot by yours truly or Kent. πŸ™‚

I’m a thinker and I enjoy mulling things over a bit before I make my mind up about something.
The positive is that all this mulling can often give me peace about a decision.

The negative is that I put a lot of pressure on myself to make the right choice and often take longer than I should to make up my mind.

It’s a fine line my friends!

Some recent mulling has brought us to today’s blog post.

Back in December I made the jump from Blogger to WordPress and lost a good chunk of my blog audience.

An audience that I worked so hard to build the over last 7 years of blogging.

It was a little scary making the jump knowing that I would be starting fresh but I went for it!
I’m so happy with the move and love our new place but it’s bought on some doubt.

For the last few months my noggin wheels have been turning #mullingstatus as I’ve been thinking long an hard on what I want to do with our little space here on the web.

How can I reach a larger audience and build our community back up?
Should I cave and become a niche blogger? This means I would pick a topic say “Heath and Fitness” and only blog about that topic.
Do I want to start accepting brand rep deals?
Are people even reading?
Should I keep blogging?
Did Instagram kill blogs?
Periscope, Snap Chat, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube are all lovely platforms but am I using them in a genuine way?
And on and on and on……..

For 3 months so many questions around my path as a blogger have been spinning around in my head.
I still can’t say that I have answers for all of them but I do have answers for some of the important ones!

I thought we could chat about them in today’s post as I’ve received a few questions in regards to my absence on social media (mainly Persicope).

Am I’m going to stop blogging?

NOPE, NOPE, NOPE.
I just love it too much to call it quits.
It’s an awesome creative outlet for me and it’s something I wholeheartedly enjoy doing.
So the goal of keeping our blog a focus this year remains and I feel really REALLY good about that!

Such a dream to shoot my own child’s newborn photos even though he was a pill.

Should I become a niche blogger to help grow our community?

Ummmm NOPE!
I don’t blog for a living.
This is solely for fun and blogging about one topic does not sound like fun to me.
What does sound like fun is continuing to blog about anything and everything that tickles my fancy from motherhood, to fitness, to photography, to music, to how I drink my coffee.

I’ve never been interested in being a niche blogger even though I’ve been told by so many that it’s the only way to go.
Maybe I’m hurting our growth by not doing this but I’ve made it this far without joining the niche blogging community.
Why start now, right?

If you’re here and you enjoy our blog most likely you enjoy the variety of my post.
Well hopefully you do!

Random is one thing I excel at so my niche (if I have to pick one) will continue to be randomness!

Are people still reading?

I’m not sure about this one.
I know I have my tried and trues out there!
I see you and I’m grateful for the time you spend on our site, for your comments, your shares, your emails!
It’s a vast world of blogs out there and I’m just so tickled that you keep our blog on your reading list!

The reality of it all when comparing our blog stats from our old blog platform to our new space I’ve seen a HUGE dip in views and interaction which is why all this doubt started creep in.

Blogging can be very one sided and gets a little lonely sometimes.
I put my heart into my post and it’s nice to know that people are seeing what I’m creating.
I could fill ya with a bunch of bull and say “Oh I only blog for myself.” “Who cares about views and comments?” but that wouldn’t be truthful.

It’s nice to see comments pop up in the comment section.
I enjoy having conversations about a post or something I’ve shared and is a great way for me to feel more connect with my readers!

While it’s kind of crummy that we lost a huge chunk of our audience during the move I still have YOU!
My tried and trues!

Some of you moved over with us during the blog move but many of you are new buddies!

Hi new buddies!
Hugs to those who have been with us for the long haul!

Periscope, Snap Chat, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube are all lovely platforms but am I using them in a genuine way?

I’ve been on the fence about this one.

I love certain things about all of these platforms but I started to feel like I was sharing the same thing over and over, getting writers block here because I had nothing left to blog about (because it was already shared on social media) and feeling pulled to keep up with all the different platforms while still creating blog post I was proud to share.

It felt like I was everywhere and really I was so I took a step back while I thought it all through.
Again here we go with the mulling!

Many of you noticed that I’ve pulled back and have been so sweet to check in on me!

Not wanting to breakup with any of these platforms because I really do love them all I decided that I needed to put a plan in place and figure out the best way for me to use them.
A way that felt genuine and true to who I am as a person.

A 4 month old Carsie-Bear who will be 1 next week.

Here’s what I’ve come up with…..

Periscope: Kendra_Huie
I’ll be using Periscope as a place to share knowledge on topics that you guys are wanting to hear about.
Again going along with the whole random thing we can chat about whatever but I’m going to try and use my time with you on Periscope in a positive light focusing on topics that can help or inspire in some way. Some of you have sent me emails with topics you would like me to scope about. Love that!

OH OH OH our 1st Periscope round is tonight 7:30pm cst.
It’s going to be so fun!

Snap Chat: Kendra_Huie
I love the randomness of snap chat!
It’s quick and easy.
I can check in throughout the day and I get to see a glimpse of your lives as well which I’ve really enjoyed!

I’ll be keeping things fun, light and most of all silly over there!
I share our boys, my random thoughts, things I’m loving (and hating), things I want to blog but know I’ll never get around to like makeup chats, food talk, and how I store my jewelry….

I’m not using it as a way to document our family or build our blog community it’s strictly a lighthearted place to share and connect with you.

Instagram: Kendra_Huie
Our Instagram account will remain the same.
I mainly use it to document our family but keep our account open so you can follow along as well!
It’s our day to day life in pretty little squares.
It’s my most used and loved out of all the social media platforms

Facebook: Hanging With the Huies
Our facebook page is another one that will keep the same flow.
I share links to our blog post along with helpful or funny articles I come across.
Facebook is the platform I use the least but I update our page a couple times a week.

YouTube: Kendra Huie
I’m really enjoying our family vlogs and it seems that you are too which makes my happy to hear!
Out of all these different platforms I share on our vlogs are ones I fully do for myself even though I do enjoying sharing them with you.
I know I’m documenting something for my family that we’ll look back at one day and feel all the feels while we watch them.

For that reason and because y’all are digging them the vlogs will keep coming!

I hope to upgrade my vlogging camera soon and Kent recently bought me a new video editing software which I’m pretty pumped about yippee!

Will I be keeping a blogging schedule?

As far as a blogging schedule when I asked you guys about this one it seems that most of you either subscribe here, BlogLovin, or are on our Facebook page and keep up with our blog that way verses knowing that it’s a posting day and popping in.

Honestly that’s how I read blogs as well. The ones I really enjoy I ether subscribe or check in when I can.

So here’s the plan Stan……

I’m going to keep up with the weekly vlog round up post.
My goal is to get that out on a Monday but I’m not going to make it a set thing just in case something comes up and I miss a week here and there.

Other than that I will be posting throughout the week when I can.
Still shooting for 2 post or more a week but just not making it a scheduled thing.

If you were digging the schedule we had going be sure to subscribe here or follow along on FB so you get notified when post goes live!

So there ya have it!
My thoughts and plans for this little space of ours.
I know it’s so silly but having this all typed up gives me so much peace.

I’m still focusing on growing our community.
If you have an idea or would like to work together I’d love to chat with you!
I’m looking to connect with like minds that are interested in supporting a joined goal for growth…..just putting it out there!
